Welcome to America Links Up. It is great that your interest in our children's online experience led you to join our campaign, which is dedicated to providing safe, educational and rewarding experiences online.
We are pleased you endorse the America Links Up campaign mission and messages and you plan to host a Kids Online "teach-in" in your community. Be aware that while National Kids Online Week runs from September 14-20, you can hold your event anytime during the next year.
The enclosed America Links Up kit gives you the tools and resources to plan and host a teach-in event. The America Links Up materials were prepared to help parents, grandparents, teachers, librarians, community leaders and others who want to help our children safely benefit from the Internet and its vast array of resources.
In this kit you will find tools for both the novice and more experienced event planner, including:
- A sample Event Checklist to guide you through the logistical considerations.
- Materials to be distributed at your teach-in, such as:
- an Internet glossary
- a resource list of great websites for children
- a Technology Tool Kit with an inventory of parental control tools
- an America Links Up pamphlet
- A sample press release and media advisory that can be used to generate local press coverage of your event. All you need to do is fill in the blanks and send them out prior to the teach-in.
We want to help publicize your event online at the America Links Up website. That way we can bring as much attention as possible to what you are doing in your community. Please visit us at www.americalinksup.org and follow instructions provided for registering your event.
In addition, to help others learn about the local teach-in success stories, we ask that you submit a summary of your event to the America Links Up website. This will provide others with a model resource when planning a teach-in in their community.
By participating in this effort, you are becoming part of a national event that has broad support from the White House, the Department of Education, national education organizations and industry. It is also very important that you agree to the campaign's mission and messages, which are detailed in the enclosed America Links Up Teach-In Agreement.
Thank you for participating in this national campaign to help children have a safe, rewarding and educational experience online.
Sincerely,
The America Links Up Staff
